Best Toy Semi Trucks With TrailerTop 7 Best Toy Semi Trucks With Trailers

One of the best ways to help children grow and develop their hand/eye coordination is to give them toys that help improve their motor skills.

While most toys do, in fact, help in this process, toy trucks are a great choice to start with just about any child so long as they’re of the right age.

Specifically speaking, a toy your child might love would be a toy semi-truck with a trailer attachment.

When looking for the perfect toy semi (or any toy vehicle for that matter!) it’s important to consider what you’re looking for…

…are you looking for a toy a child can physically play with or are you looking more for a model figure for your child to learn about the multiple parts it may come with?

Rather than forcing you to suffer through the headache of forcing your way through a bundle of toys online, here is a compiled list of the top 7 best semi-toy trucks with trailers.

1. Ertl John Deere with Grain Trailer

Overview

With rolling wheels, diecast pieces, and a black and chrome palette, the Ertl John Deer semi-truck is built with both metal and plastic parts.

This toy is fairly straightforward, as it’s a toy semi-truck with a trailer attachment.

The manufacturer’s recommended age group is for children around 8 to 10 years old but many reviewers state buying the toy for their younger children.

User Experiences

Andrea purchased the toy truck for her 3-year-old son.

She left a 5-star review on the product, praising its design and quality…

“My 3-year-old loves trucks and trailers. It’s actually pretty hard to find decent ones. This truck seems sturdy enough to withhold tough play and is just a basic truck and trailer. It doesn’t seem to have flimsy pieces that will break off easily.”

User Frank Treto, while liking the overall product quality, noted how he did have one problem with the toy truck…

“Only negative I have on this is I wish the trailer would snap on to the semi. It doesn’t stay on permanently so my son keeps bringing it to me so that I can make it snap like his other semis.”

Pros & Cons

Pros

  • The quality is praised despite being mostly plastic

Cons

  • The pieces don’t seem to attach very well

Alternative(s)

Thankfully when it comes to toys similar to the Ertl John Deere semi, it’s not too difficult to find alternatives as opposed to more complicated toy trucks.

Designed in a maroon and silver color scheme, this toy semi has a trailer piece intended for the transportation of animals such as livestock.

While the John Deere semi isn’t meant for carrying livestock in its trailer, this toy truck works as a decent alternative.

  • Ertl Big Farm Peterbilt Vehicle with Grain Trailer, Model 367

2. NewRay 15843 Trailer Kenworth W900 Diecast Vehicle

Overview

Designed as a pure white, diecast, and plastic vehicle, the NewRay 15843 semi is a fairly detailed truck despite its solid color choice.

Despite the age recommendation being for children at least 2 years old, the common consensus is that this toy is more of a decorative piece.

User Experiences

For most of the reviewers of the product, the ones who rate it positively are those using the toy for decoration.

This is also true for Lily M., who bought the toy for a younger family member while also mentioning the toy’s quality…

“I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 because I don’t think you could play with this much. It feels too light. This was a nice, cute, fun gift for a new tractor-trailer driver that said he’d like his own Kenworth truck.”

Similarly, a user simply by the name of John explains that he bought the toy for decoration…

“It is a desk ornament for me so I do not play with it. The model is quite realistic however most of it is plastic and you can tell. You do have to be quite close to tell, however.”

Pros & Cons

Pros

  • The appearance of the truck is nice and realistic even though it is plastic

Cons

  • The only buyers who appreciate the product are older and buy it purely for aesthetic purposes despite the product being listed for children at least 2-years-old

Alternative(s)

As with the Ertl John Deere semi-truck, it isn’t too difficult to find toy semis with trailers as backup choices!

Here is a small list of alternative toys to see if they’re more to your liking.

Wheel Master Kenworth T700 Oil Tanker

➜ Check Lowest Price On Amazon

If your child loves Oil Tanker Semi-trucks, this truck may be the perfect gift.

While it isn’t pure white like the NewRay semi, it makes for a good display toy as well.

Though it’s recommended for children 8 months old and older, reviewers mention how the plastic pieces may not make it a good gift for younger kids.

Alternatives found in this list:

  • Set of 4 Kenworth T700 Semi Truck with Container Trailer

3. Set of 4 Kenworth T700 Semi Truck with Container Trailer

Overview

Instead of just one semi-truck with a tractor-trailer, this series of toys comes with four trucks.

With a choice between red, white, blue, and black or simply all-white trucks, this set comes as a decently sized bundle.

The recommended manufacturer age is 3 months old and up but it may be better to give to older kids.

User Experiences

Most reviewers gave mixed to positive reviews on the product.

Though most reviews are straightforward and short, user WorldWide notes a fairly positive experience while not ignoring the product’s flaws:

“Tractor-trailer is nice. Tractor’s missing windows in sleeping cab. Easy fix though with a bit of ingenuity.”

Pros & Cons

Pros

  • Nicely detailed and fairly small semi-trucks

Cons

  • Likely to work better for younger kids or as a model rather than a moving toy

Alternative(s)

The choices for this truck fall into mostly the same category as the NewRay semi-truck due to both being simple, single-colored vehicle models.

KiNSMART KT1302D – T700

This toy, much like the NewRay truck, is a pure white semi that works best as a display model.

While it isn’t as realistic as the NewRay-branded automobile, it’s much more affordable in cost.

This toy is recommended for older individuals despite the manufacturer’s recommended age being at least 3-months-old.

4. Click n’ Play Friction-Powered Jumbo Tractor Trailer Truck

Overview

The Click n’ Play toy semi is a friction-powered, grass green-colored toy truck.

It’s made of BPA-free plastic.

Due to being friction-powered, it’s a toy to be pushed and pulled without the use of batteries.

The toy is intended for children at least 3 years old.

User Experiences

“Really well-made toy, very sturdy and my son loves it. My sons throw this toy around and it hasn’t broken yet so you know it is built right. He loves taking it apart and putting small cars in the back,”

…user Leidy karaiscos writes after purchasing the toy.

Other reviews are also mostly positive, such as Casey H.’s feedback…

“My husband got this for my son’s birthday. He loves that the back doors on the truck open so he can store his smaller cars in them. He’s had it for over a month now and so far so good.”

Pros & Cons

Pros

  • Decently-made toy semi that can be played with!

Cons

  • Common complaints revolve around the trailer’s doors not being very durable

Alternative(s)

Alternative toys for the Click n’ Play semi aren’t as broad as other toy semis.

Though the options are a bit more limited, they still may be what you’d like if the Click n’ Play semi wasn’t quite what you’re after in a toy.

Vokodo Toy Semi Truck Trailer with Remote Control

➜ Check Lowest Price On Amazon

The Vokodo Toy Semi Truck Trailer comes with remote control…

Unlike the Click n’ Play toy, however, this toy comes with both lights and sound!

If you’re interested in bringing this blue and black toy semi home, it is recommended for children 3 years old and up.

Alternatives found in this list:

  • For this toy, there aren’t any alternatives close enough to it on this list.

5. Ertl Big Farm Peterbilt Vehicle with Grain Trailer, Model 367

Overview

Much more costly than many other toy semis, the Ertl Big Farm Peterbilt Vehicle is also a much more intricate and realistically designed toy truck.

With a monochrome palette of black and white across its body, the truck carries a clean appearance.

It’s suitable for children aged 5 years old and up.

User Experiences

This Ertl truck receives quite a bit of positive feedback from buyers.

Impressed by the truck, Monica Cotton left a fairly positive review, only knocking off a star because of the way it was shipped…

“The sheer size of this truck made it a big hit with my 6-year-old nephew! Very happy with the product and it appears sturdy.”

A user named Rachel was also pleased with her purchase…

“If anyone is like me and doesn’t totally understand the size ratios this truck is HUGE. My son is gonna be blown away! Amazing for the price.”

Pros & Cons

Pros

  • Very detailed and high quality
  • Large truck in size

Cons

  • If your budget isn’t extremely high for a toy, this truck will likely be too expensive

Alternative(s)

ERTL Big Farm Lights & Sounds Peterbilt 1: 16 Model 367

Alternatives found in this list:

  • Ertl John Deere with Grain Trailer

6. Wheel Master Peterbilt Tractor Trailer 387

Overview

Painted a vivid red with flame accents, this semi-truck is a fairly realistic toy in its build.

Its front doors in the truck cabin can be opened and the truck and trailer can be separated from one another.

The manufacturer’s recommended age is 8 months old and up but is recommended for older children by reviewers due to the plastic parts.

User Experiences

For users with older children, they typically reviewed the product more positively.

An anonymous Amazon customer gave the product 5-stars, saying…

“This was surprisingly nice, my 6-year-old loved it. It held up.”

Other reviewers aren’t quite as positive, however, such as Ash R mentioning some flaws with the product…

“The lights on the cab fell off almost instantly. The connection between the trailer and the cab is almost nonexistent.”

Alongside this, some reviewers claim the toy to be better as a display model than a child’s toy, such as JD’s review:

“Great detail if you want to display it but terrible for a kid’s toy.”

Pros & Cons

Pros

  • The paint job is well-done and bright
  • The truck itself is fairly realistic in design

Cons

  • The toy isn’t great for younger children despite the manufacturer’s recommended age

Alternative(s)

For alternatives to this toy, parts you could consider worth looking for in another toy are a crisp design and doors that can be opened.

Though it’s found within this list, a great alternative is the NewRay Volvo Tractor found below.

Alternatives found in this list:

  • NewRay Volvo Tractor and Trailer VN-780

7. NewRay Volvo Tractor and Trailer VN-780

Overview

Painted white and with “Volvo” written across its trailer, this toy semi-truck is similar to the Wheel Master’s red semi in a couple of ways: a crisp design and front/tractor doors that can be opened.

If the red flames were a bit much, this truck is more smooth and sleek in design.

It’s recommended for kids about 12 years old.

User Experiences

After buying the truck for their nephew, K.Murray was absolutely in awe because of the quality.

With a detailed review, it goes as follows:

“My nephew requested a truck with an opening back for his 6th birthday. I just kind of assumed this truck would be small and not that awesome.

Even I was STOKED when it arrived in the mail. It is a big truck and he is able to load other trucks and cargo’ in it. He loves it.”

Pros & Cons

Pros

  • High-quality toy
  • Though it’s still pricey, it’s not the most costly toy on this list

Cons

  • The age grout that this toy is meant for is at least 12 years old, as it can’t handle rough playing

Alternative(s)

For this toy, the closest alternative is already the fiery Wheel Master semi.

Alternatives found in this list:

  • Wheel Master Peterbilt Tractor Trailer 387

Whether it’s a toy meant to be pushed around or a model to be displayed on a shelf, toy trucks make for a great gift for your kids if you’re able to find that perfect choice.

Certain toys work better as collectible models than toys to be played with but there’s always something available for what you’re after.

If you want your child to learn about the design aspect of a truck, model toys for display work wonderfully.

Of course, getting them a toy to be pushed and pulled around can help with the development of their motor skills.

If you ever think twice about getting the kids in your life a toy, a semi-toy truck with a trailer is a great first choice for a gift.

  1. With Christmas around the corner, this is the time to start shopping for presents. I don’t have kids, but we’re going to have a white elephant exchange, and I know some people like semis for decoration. Out of all the ones you mentioned, I think my favorite is the Ertl John Deere. It looks sleek, elegant, and sturdy. I think any adult would love to have this on his desk or tabletop.

I will bookmark this for future reference and see if I can find other options for this upcoming holiday. Thanks for sharing.

  2. Hi there. Thanks for the brief but detailed review of every toy semi truck you have mentioned. The details have been really useful for me. I’m planning to buy my son a semi truck on his upcoming birthday and I thought I should check the options you have here. I think I’m going to go with either the first or the second option. Let me decide between the two and see which one I’m going to go with. Thanks!

  3. Hi there, I have two boys that love toy trucks with trailers. It provides endless hours of fun for the two of them and they switch the trailers and the cabs around to make their own combinations. So the Kenworth set with 4 trucks, would be perfect for switching between the cabs and trailers.

Although some of these trucks appear to be better as model trucks and have them on display, they will still be suitable for anybody that enjoys semi trucks and trailers.

    • You’re right LineCowley, these model trucks are still pretty good regardless.  Kids will especially love the realistic designs. They’re pretty awesome!

I love this site because it will make any child happy to play with these Toy Semi Trucks and Trailers.

The Trucks are so well designed and very colourful they resemble real trucks.

I love the American Red truck myself and I am not a child anymore but it’s a great design and the colours are excellent; the Adler on the truck gives it another dimension for a truck that comes from America.

The  4 Kenworth T700 Semi Truck with Container Trailer is also great. The child can use his imagination and even park the trucks when he is finished playing.

I also find great the  Click n’ Play Friction-Powered Jumbo Tractor Trailer Truck. This is a beautiful toy to play with and the prices are reasonable as well. Some of the trucks are currently unavailable on Amazon which is a shame. Must be because of Christmas.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading your article all about trucks and trailers.

  5. My boy is building a nice collection of cars on his wall. And he was asking me the other day why he did not have trucks. So, I have been researching, and I would like to buy him the set of 4 Kenworth T700 semi-trucks with container trailers. He saw many of these in his vacations, so I know he will be excited!

  6. After reading about all of them, and the cons I think the best choice for me is the Wheel Master Peterbilt Tractor Trailer 387.  It looks nice and I wouldn’t give to a younger child anyway.  My grandson is fascinated with hot wheels and toy trucks.  He absolutely loves them. So this is the perfect gift when he comes to visit me next time.  Even better is that he loves red 🙂

  7. Wow, semi trailer tucks. Which boy and sometimes girl wouldn’t be overjoyed to own one, I still remember playing over 55 years ago with such a truck and making dirt roads in my backyard. This is what children today need is to get outside and to play with others. This activity was exceptionally fun , and with other vehicles and playmates, we learned how to interact together, cooperate and form a small village where we learned how to solve over turned trucks and other issues that could arise with peaceful negotiation! The semi-trailer truck was always the most favored toy! I am eagerly waiting to see what other toys you will review!

  8. These are all cute semi-trucks, and I find it hard to choose one. My son likes all kinds of trucks and will even forgo all his other toys to have just a truck.

So, I would like to surprise him with the  Kenworth 4 trucks; it’s so colorful and looks so real.

And I’m happy it’s perfect for his age.

Thank you for the detailed review of semi-trucks.

    Cheers
