Hey thank you for the article! I’m glad you have several different types of crates here! I find number 3 from pet nation to be the most appealling for my needs! Luckily my dog does not scratch his current crate any so I wouldn’t have to worry about that. I am also glad to see that it only has that one con! Thank you!
You’re welcome, Jessie! Glad to help.
This is very interesting to see here as I’m looking to getting a dog crate for my newly adopted Labradors. She us somewhat bigger and might be too oppressive towards the lesser one so,I wish to have a private home for her. Hence, my specs is to have a very spacious crate and you have just given the perfect list I need here. Thanks. Though all the listed have their cons but I prefer the MidWest Homes for Pets XXL Giant Dog Crate. It seems to be more durable and lasting coupled with having a better security to restrict the dog from leaving it
Yeah Rodarrick, the MidWest Homes double extra large Dog Crate will be a great choice for your Labradors!
Glad you found this helpful.
Having a large crate for dogs does not only give you rest of mind that they are well secured and not going to constitute nuisance but it also makes the dogs very comfortable to stay in as they will have enough room to play and also to move around.
Thank you for this and I will make sure to get from the listed here.
Though the cons of each crate seem a little scary except for the number 4, MidWest Homes for Pets XXL Giant Dog Crate is better since it only applies to small dogs.
My buddy is quite big and is exactly 5.5 ft when he is on both hind limbs.
He has been one big bully to some other dogs that come around the house, especially when you go close to his mat. As a result of his really large size, I couldn’t get a crate to fit him perfectly and I had to settle for a rug.
Seeing these suggestions makes me truly excited and from the listed crates I love the MidWest Single-Door Starter Series Pet Crate. I’ll settle for that.
Best regards .
Awesome! Yeah, the single door starter crate is great. Just be aware that it doesn’t’ come with a pan at the bottom.
It should go well if that’s not an issue for you.
I really like the PetNation port-a-crate! It sounds like a perfect miniature home for my dog to stay in while we are gone.
Unfortunately, he likes to tear things up while we are away, but this looks like a comfortable option for him to relax in.
I used to have one of the metal crates but unfortunately after years of wear and tear it was time for a new one!
I have been using a Cabin for my dogs and I’ve just realized it is now quite too small considering their size and also there are these annoying insects starting to appear because it is getting quite hot and inside no light can filter in.
Also having one crate for each dog reduces having any fights and I think the port A pet nation crate is good because it has quite some comfort and I may consider having that one.
Really good article. Never realized how many different crates were out there.
But personally I agree, it’s very important to know what crate would be ideally the best one for your pet.
I liked it, well done. Keep it up! Keep it creative, it will attrach more readers instead of stating the facts. Can’t wait to read more!
Hey Jason,
Thanks for providing this review of extra large dog crates. I and my girlfriend live part-time in the UK and part-time in LA.
We have a German Shepherd, Arnie so we need to take him with us when we go back and forth every six months or so.
Any thoughts which ones are best for plane travel?
Hey Nate, the Noz2Noz Soft-Krater Indoor and Outdoor Crate will be your best bet when it comes to plane travel.
I am looking for a crate for my dog when I keep her at home while I am at work.
She is a beagle and tends to get into trouble when I leave her on the loose in house.
2 questions I have:
How important is size of the cage vs the size of the dog?
She’s a smaller dog so should I get a smaller cage or is a bigger cage better?
Also when I have tried to isolate her in 1 room while I’m gone she’ll literally just bark all day from what my neighbor told me. (Which is why I stopped leaving her in 1 room)
Is there a cage that would make a difference for that problem?
I didn’t know if there was anything I could do to prevent or minimize the barking.
Hey Lgoupil,
The general rule for dog cage size to the size of your dog is really about comfortability.
So the bigger the dog, the bigger the cage should be. You don’t want to get a cage that’s too big because this will be uncomfortable.
For your Beagle, it’s recommended that you get a small to medium-sized dog cage.
For the barking problem, you may want to get the Brain Training For Dogs – Unique Dog Training Course.
It’s proven to help dogs stop barking and improve their overall intelligence.
Try it out!

My own dog used a crate until she was six months old and then one day she managed to break out and now will not go in a crate voluntarily.
Which of the crates would you suggest for an escape artist like my dog (she is a German Shepard)?
Thanks in advance,
